Bethesda Elder Scrolls News

1 day ago  In a recent New Year's post, Bethesda shared a curious image that could give clues on The Elder Scrolls VI's location. The map shows a few candles precariously placed. This time, it is a biggie, as Bethesda has teased something about the Elder Scrolls series. The company dropped the message via Twitter on December 31, and simply asked fans to 'Transcribe the past and map the future. Based on the award-winning Elder Scrolls series, The Elder Scrolls: Legends is a strategy card game that explores the series' characters, creatures, deities, and lore. Whether you have 10 minutes or five hours, Legends provides a variety of gameplay modes and challenges that are easy-to-learn but difficult to master.

Bethesda has confirmed some bad news about The Elder Scrolls 6. Since its reveal in 2018, Bethesda hasn't said a peep about the game. It's in development, presumably for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. That's all we know. And to be fair, Bethesda noted at the time of the game's reveal that its release was very, very far away. And this is something it's reiterated in the past, and it's something it's reiterated again.

Over on Twitter, Bethesda's Pete Hines confirmed that, more than two years later, the game is still very far away. When asked by a fan about release information for the upcoming Elder Scrolls game, Hines not only confirmed Bethesda has nothing to share, but that it won't have anything to share for a 'long time.' In other words, two years after its reveal, it doesn't seem like we are all that much closer to seeing more of the next mainline installment in the series.

It gets worse for Bethesda fans though. In addition to The Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda Game Studios is also working on Starfield, which is expected to arrive before TES6. In fact, there's been some rumors and speculation suggesting the space-faring RPG will be revealed this year. All of this has apparently been nonsense though.

Also on Twitter, Hines confirmed we won't be seeing anything about Starfield this year, however, he did seemingly confirm we will see the game next year, 2021.

At this point, it's safe to assume Starfield is either a 2021 or 2022 game given how brief Bethesda likes to keep its marketing campaigns. If this is the case, then we might not be seeing The Elder Scrolls 6 until 2024 at the earliest.

Netflix is reportedly planning to create a TV show based on the The Elder Scrolls franchise.

Bethesda Elder Scrolls 6 News

Capitalising on the success of similar adaptations that turned The Witcher and Castlevania into strong shows on the streaming service, it's now rumoured that Netflix is looking to repeat the formula with a show based upon Bethesda's action RPG, too.

The rumour comes via industry insider Daniel Ritchtman (£) (thanks, Game Rant), who reports Netflix is looking to adapt the fan-favourite franchise. Admittedly it's only a rumour right now - as yet we haven't heard from Bethesda, Microsoft or Netflix - but given there are already plans to turn Fallout 4 into a TV show, it's certainly a plausible one.

In case you missed it, The Elder Scrolls Online's next big adventure is all about Oblivion, as revealed during The Game Awards. There's a reveal event set for 21st January 2021 to get a first look at this new storyline.

As we explained at the time, Oblivion was the Bethesda RPG that came out on PC and Xbox 360 in March 2006. It's set within Cyrodiil, and tasks you with taking down a cult called the Mythic Dawn that plans to open portal gates to the demonic realm known as Oblivion. The opening set piece involves escaping a prison alongside Emperor Uriel Septim VII, voiced by Patrick Stewart. Eventually you emerge into this vast, open fantasy world before you.

The Elder Scrolls Online's Gates of Oblivion follows 2020's Dark Heart of Skyrim chapter, which leaned into the eternally popular Skyrim.
