This leads many gamers to wonder if Terraria supports cross-platform play. With so many platforms to play on, it isn't a straight forward yes or no.
Windows, Mac, and Linux
If you've bought the game on any of these platforms, congratulations! You and all of your friends can play together so long as you are on one of these platforms.
This means if your friend owns Terraria for the Switch or PS4 or any other console, they will not be able to play with you on PC.
Mobile (iOS/Android)
If you have an iPhone and your friend has an Android phone, you two can play together! Terraria does support cross-platform play on mobile devices.
PS3, PS4, PSVita
If you own Terraria on any of these Sony products, you can play with friends who also own Terraria on one of them.
Terraria supports cross-platform play between any of the different PlayStation consoles it has been released on.
Xbox 360, Xbox One
If you are a fan of Microsoft and bought Terraria on either recent Xbox console, then you can play with your friends as long as they are also playing on an Xbox.
Terraria does support cross-platform play between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Does Terraria Support Cross-platform Play on Other Consoles?
As of right now, if your above console or platform wasn't listed, Terraria will not be cross-platform playable. This means that you cannot play on a PS4 and play with your friend who has the Switch port. Leopard 3 wikipedia.

The Desktop version of Terraria refers to the Windows, Mac, and Linux desktop computer versions. These versions are produced entirely by Re-Logic, Terraria's original developer (whereas the current Console version is being worked upon by DR Studios, a third-party developer.) Because of this, updates always come to the Desktop version first.
All three desktop versions are on the same update path and are updated together, sharing a common version number, though each has its own installation package. All can be purchased/downloaded through Steam or GOG.com.
Mac and Linux versions became available starting with version 1.3.0.7 as a beta test package on July 23, 2015, and in 1.3.0.8 as a full release on August 12, 2015. All prior versions were Windows only. Starcraft 2 requirements. Foxit reader 8 2 1.
